The next generation of bioreactors

Current regulation stipulates that a cubic metre of air should be sampled as part of a manufacturing process. This led to the evolution of samplers designed to sample a cubic metre very quickly to minimise production down time.

The new GMP Annex 1 of will require CONTINUOUS MONITORING of critical locations throughout a process and during set-up. Rapid cubic metre air samplers will no longer meet the requirements.

Novartis extends further into Gene Therapy

Cystinosis genuinely qualifies as a rare genetic disorder, with incidence at a level of around 1 in 100,000 in the population.

The amino acid cystine accumulates in cells causing damage to tissues and to organs, most often the kidneys, and distressingly the condition often first manifests in late childhood. Avrobio (Mass, US) focus on lentiviral gene therapy, and developed this treatment through to clinical stage, and the Novartis acquisition is a clear vote of confidence.

Researchers led by Dr. David Baker from the University of Washington have developed a groundbreaking AI-based method for designing custom protein complexes.Using a machine learning algorithm called Monte Carlo tree search, they were able to create protein architectures tailored to specific biological responses. The AI-designed proteins showed promising results, including the development of a highly effective vaccine candidate that outperformed existing designs in clinical trials.

This research opens up possibilities for designing complex protein structures for various applications, such as gene therapies and drug delivery systems.

As the world moves away from disposable, single-use technologies it may seem strange that single-use processing technology for biopharmaceutical production, already a huge marketplace driven by innovation, continues to grow – a CAGR of around 30% as some claim means the market for such technology is heading towards $10billion annually by the end of the decade.

Single-use technology in these applications promotes sustainability in different ways: It replaces the use of large amounts of chemicals, water and energy used to clean and sanitise traditional stainless steel production vessels between batches, and also reduces the possibility of waste generated by failed batches caused by cross-contamination.

These days we are launching the anxiolytic drug Dexmedetomidine, a generic version of Dexdor®, not only as a pain reducing and relaxant drug used in hospitals, but also as a support medicine for Doctors helping to improve the lives of COVID-19 infected patients.

Together with our partner Sanval Comércio e Indústria, one of the leading suppliers of hospital medicine in Brazil, who also is our joint venture partner for building up our own label BioBrasil®, we are launching the drug as a 100mcg / ml injectable these days. We have built the infrastructure for this event for 5 years now and are happy to see our efforts succeed this way. Based on already signed contracts we are launching a pipeline of products over the next years that will grow Ferro Pharma Group sales by 7 times and more.

The collaboration of Ferro Pharma Group with Topfond SciTech has led to international success. The combination of in-depth focus on quality in combination with cost leadership has opened up the API business in an environment of fierce competition.

Within 9 months we have been able to acquire and contract long term supply partnerships with what we consider is the "who is who" in generic pharma, across three different continents. Thank you customers and Topfond SciTech for the trust you gave us as "newcomers" in the area of API business development and to give us the chance to prove we can do it.
